Designer’s role for sustainable packaging
When a designer plans to create a sustainable packaging, there are a few
criteria that has to be taken notice of. For environment part, design itself has to be designed holistically
with the product together in order to improve the environment performance.
Designer must also consider with the materials used when the packaging is being
produced. It also must be recycled or able to be recovered efficiently after
used by consumers and customers. The most important part is that it has to be
effective and safe throughout its life cycle for the consumers and the
environment.
As for the industry and market, designers have to make sure that it
meets the market criteria for performance and the expenses for the industry. It
also has to meet the consumer’s choice and expectations, for example, the
packaging has to be convenient, advertise, products are protected well, gives
information and shows the identity or brand of the product itself.
Doing more with less
Designing a sustainable packaging is not only about looking good with
benefits, designers have to think a little deeper than that. While designing
the packaging, they must understand that the design has to construct both trust
and be perceived as dynamism for the brand itself. It is also to create
solutions to promote positive impact as for other people. The innovation alone
for the packaging does not guarantee dynamism at all. Innovation is all about
doing more with less and still being able to connect with the audiences. A
little design is a better design.
A simple explanation will be in the final essay for designer's role and the essay itself will be more focused on the packaging and the urgent needs.
